Does anybody else see the humor in the fact that I've been spending so much time discussing pictures of beautiful young woman in the nudist blogsphere while a major corporation is catching heat for using images of beautiful older woman to sell its soap?
Threatening a boycott, the "what about the children?" people are demanding that Dove and its parent company Unilever halt the Dove Pro-Age ad campaign. The ads feature profile shots of nude 50+ aged women. The women are posed in such a way that there arms and legs conceal anything that would normally be concealed by a bikini. God only knows what would happen if their precious children were exposed to the suggestion of full profile nudity.
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, New Jersey, March 5, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A new series of prime-time ads for Dove beauty products featuring shots of naked senior women is coming under criticism by pro-family and women's groups for contributing to the sexualization of women as a commercial tool, as well as exposing children to adult nudity...
..."Along with this new marketing tool of using complete nudity, Unilever has a history of producing incredibly vulgar, erotic ads for their Axe line of men's deodorant and cologne products," said the American Family Association. "In addition, Unilever's Sunsilk shampoo line has used similar crass, sexual themes in its advertising. One promotion for Sunsilk hair products advertised 'For hair kinkier than an S&M convention.' Along with this message was an image of handcuffs."

I'm speechless. I've been staring at the screen for ten minutes trying to figure out what to write about the above quote. What I find more disturbing than the fact that these poor people appear to be completely incapable of distinguishing between sexual and non-sexual nudity is the fact that they are forced to face life without the benefit of a sense of humor. At worse, the Axe ads are stupid, but incredibly, vulgar and erotic is a bit extreme. As a public service, I suggest we start a campaign to provide members of the American Family Association with large print illustrated dictionaries. It's probably too late to help them develop a sense of humor.
